The second annual O.L.A. Family Service Day on Saturday, April 29, 2017 was a big success. Thanks goes out to all the volunteers, organizers, and Father Russ for committing their valuable time and resources to allow this event to occur. Without the commitment from so many people., O.L.A. could not have such a big impact on the community.
The day started out at 9:00 AM with over 130 people gathering in Linus Hall. Service Day T-shirts were distributed to the volunteers, who then enjoyed a bit of camaraderie with fellow parishioners along with some coffee, donuts, and juice. Father Russ began the official event with an opening prayer, and the volunteers headed out at 9:45 AM to the various worksites.
Volunteers provided assistance until noon at many area locations including Franciscan Village, American Legion-Fairview Park, Laura’s Home, the Cleveland Police/Firefighters Memorial, West Park Rehab, Kamm’s Corners Development, VFW at West 140th, Alger Cemetery, and Fairview Park Cemetery. The work included indoor and outdoor activities such as light cleaning and landscaping, and visiting with residents.
As seen from these photographs, service performed with a smile gives a strong witness to our faith, and the wet weather did not put a damper on this wonderful outreach event. Thank you all!
